Make your homemade salad delicious!

If you want to lose weight or improve your eating habits salads can be your best friend! They’re fast, convenient and perfect idea for either your lunch or your dinner! Most veggies are fully nutritious with lots of vitamins and minerals! Vegetables usually contain only around 25kcal (per 1/2cup serving)!

Do you want to make the salad that you ate at a restaurant at home? Here are some tips:

  1. Choose vegetables that you actually like for your base! Try to keep things interesting and attractive by mixing various leafly greens to add more flavour such as spinach, kale and lettuce.

  2. Don’t forget to use seasoning in your salad! We always remember to add our favourite herbs and spices to our meal but when it comes time for salad we may forget it. Using fresh herbs add a beautiful touch to your salads. Try to add basil, oregano, chives or parsley to your homemade salad!

  3. Make your own dressing! For instance you can make your own vinaigrette with olive oil, balsamic, honey and add mustard or tahini. Another idea is to use greek yogurt for your dressing and add garlic, parsley, mustard, lime and pepper.

  4. Add different textures to your salad! (e.g. add some nuts and seeds like almonds, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds to make your salad tasty)

Aim for eating the rainbow, as the color of the veggie indicates its health benefits!

  • -Green veggies (e.g. brocolli, asparagus): eye health and protect against cancer

  • -Red veggies (e.g. tomato): antioxidant lycopene which is responsible to decrease the risk of heart disease

  • -Yellow veggies (e.g. yellow pepper): vitamin C to boost immune system

  • -Orange veggies (e.g. carrots, sweet potato): beta-carotene improve eyesight, skin and immune system

  • -Purpe veggies (e.g. blueberries): anti-inflammatory role and fight the effect of aging

  • -White veggies (e.g. cauliflower, mushrooms): protect against cancer & heart disease

On the other hand, salads seem innocent but they can easily turn into a calorie bomb if they’re topped with high-calorie and high-fat dressings! So be careful with your choices and enjoy your delicous salad!
